Orange

Sweet Living, Steady Progress

The Town of Orange, located 28 miles northeast of Charlottesville and 4 miles east of James Madison’s Montpelier, is the seat of Orange County. The Town’s motto, “sweet living, steady progress,” is rooted in the incremental growth it has experienced in a history that dates back before the revolutionary war.

The Town’s story dates back to 1752, when the Town of Orange Courthouse was established in what is the modern day downtown. Infrastructure increased the along with the regional agricultural market, and up until the Civil War the
downtown saw multiple buildings constructed, including Holladay House, a nationally recognized historic place that features a doorway that is identical to the one at Montpelier, the nearby estate of James Madison.

Orange is situated in the north-central Piedmont region. Residents enjoy some of the most unsurpassable landscapes and views anywhere in the Commonwealth of Virginia, including panoramic vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
