Wintergreen is a resort community in the shadow of Wintergreen Mountain in northern Nelson County. Located along Route 151 near the village of Nellysford, Wintergreen is just 40 minutes from both Charlottesville and Staunton. The lifeblood of the community is Wintergreen Resort, a popular vacation spot offering winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, as well as year-round activities like golf, tennis, hiking, and a spa.

There are two main neighborhoods in Wintergreen: Wintergreen Mountain, on the slopes of the mountain surrounding the resort, and Stoney Creek in the valley. Wintergreen homes are a diverse mix of townhouses, houses, and condominiums. Many of the homes in Wintergreen are vacation homes or short-term rentals, but full-time residents enjoy the beautiful scenery and year-round amenities of the resort and the surrounding area.

Even in the warmer months when winter sports are out of season, the Wintergreen area stays busy with tourists and daytrippers thanks to brewery and winery tours. Route 151, just down the mountain from Wintergreen, has become a hot spot for craft beer, wine, and spirits in Central Virginia. Popular spots include Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company, Bold Rock Hard Cider, and Wild Wolf Brewing Company, all of which offer world-class dining in addition to their signature beverages.
