Capital Region

Historical, Diverse, Convenient

Virginia’s Capital Region encompasses Richmond, the capital of the Commonwealth, the surrounding counties of Chesterfield, Henrico, & Goochland, and suburbs such as Short Pump & Glen Allen. Its central location at the fall line of the James River made Richmond a thriving city in both Colonial and post-revolutionary America, with the city eventually becoming the capital in 1780. The current Virginia State Capitol building was conceived by Thomas Jefferson and completed in 1788; with the addition of two wings in 1904, it still stands today and houses the Virginia General Assembly, the oldest elected legislative body in the country.

The modern Capital Region sits conveniently at the intersection of several major highways including Interstates 95 and 64, US Routes 33 and 250, and State Routes 76 and 150. Washington D.C., Williamsburg, and Charlottesville are all easily accessible from the various arteries that run through the area.

Greater Richmond Real estate

Richmond’s downtown area is home to federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as several renowned legal and banking firms. The area is economically diverse, with multiple national and international companies such as Capital One, Dominion Energy, and Genworth Financial holding office space and serving as major employers to the region. The area has been a thriving hub for the advertising business since the 1960s; Virginia Commonwealth University’s graduate program in advertising is consistently ranked the no.1 program of its kind due to the support of the various local ad agencies.

On the River, or in the City

Homes and properties for sale in Richmond and the surrounding counties are as stunning and diverse as the area itself. McLean Faulconer agents possess significant expertise in the market for land and estates that are both convenient to downtown Richmond and notable for their surrounding natural areas. Several of the properties for sale in the area possess significant frontage along the Chickahominy and James Rivers. Urban properties for sale in the region are a delightful blend of Tudor, Colonial, and Contemporary architectural styles.

Endless Options

Residents of the Capital Region have a never-ending menu of cultural and recreational options to choose from, as well as robust dining and shopping options both in the capital itself and the suburbs surrounding it. The region is also a hotbed of outdoor activity. The James River Parks System provides numerous biking, hiking, and nature trails, and two major islands on the river, Brown’s Island and Belle Isle, are sites of public parks. All nine localities of the Richmond region have been individually recognized with a Playful City USA designation for promoting active living habits.

Richmond is home to several large museums, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Science Museum of Virginia, and the Children’s Museum of Richmond. It also contains several sites of historical interest including the American Civil War Museum, the Edgar Allen Poe Museum, and the John Marshall House, the home of the former Chief Justice of the United States.
